CGPHA- MEET THE 2007-2008 BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Maria Freed,
President
Maria Freed is a life long resident of the Magic City who attended Riverside Elementary School and remembers riding her bike along the Rickenbacker Causeway to get to the old zoo in Key Biscayne. She is married to David, a software developer and is the proud mother of 5 children. Maria attended Florida State University and has a degree in Business Administration, and earned a Master in Health Services Administration from Florida International University. She has been in healthcare administration for over 18 years, including serving as Vice-President of the CyberKnife Centers of Miami and Palm Beach, and more recently at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Maria is a strong advocate of community and civic involvement and has served on numerous charitable Boards in South Florida. She brings to the Coconut Grove Park Homeowners Association the strong organizational and interpersonal skills needed to serve the needs of a diverse and multi-cultural community such as North Grove.
Arthur Lewis,
Vice President
Arthur Lewis and his family have lived in North Grove since January of 2004. He is a vocal opponent of commercial encroachment into our residential areas. He is an attorney, specializing in real estate, mortgage law, association law, and creditor's rights. He has vast experience in negotiating with various governmental agencies. He is interested in working for the improvement of our local public schools and wishes to explore the costs and benefits of our neighborhood paying for private police patrols on our neighborhood streets. He is committed to monitoring the development plans of the Coconut Grove Metrorail station, and other projects that may impact our community.
Grace Carter,
Treasurer
Grace Carter was born in the house she resides in. She is an alumnus of Silver Bluff Elementary, Shenandoah Junior High and Miami Senior. She is a Seminole, having graduated from Florida State University with a major in Home Economics Education. She is married to a retried Air Force Sergeant, has three children and five grandchildren. The Carter's have traveled throughout the United States and lived in Europe for nine years. In 1975, after her husband's retirement, they moved back to the Miami and rebuilt her North Grove family home. Grace taught school for six years at W.R. Thomas Middle School and the last 18 years at Shenandoah Middle. She has accomplished many achievements in her role as educator including heading the Social Studies Department and Teacher of the Year in 1990-1991. Her community activities have been shared with many of her students, including beautification projects and beach clean ups, recycling materials, fundraising for the Ronald MacDonald House and visiting senior centers during the Holidays. Grace retired in 1999 and has been actively involved with CGPHA for many years.
Stuart Sorg,
Secretary
Stuart Sorg is a native of Richmond, Virginia and attended the University of Miami and graduated from the University of Virginia. He has an impressive business background in the Savings and Loans field, having held several executive positions including President of an association which represented 19 major Virginian saving and loans companies. He is a retired Navy SEAL Captain, an avid sailboat racer and SCUBA diver, and has served as a consultant to the City of Miami for the preservation of harbors, rivers and marinas.
He is an active citizen of Miami having served on the Board of numerous organizations, notably as President of the Coconut Grove Chamber of Commerce, the International Trade Board, the Viscayans, and the Mercy Hospital Foundation. Stuart is the Founder and Chairman of the City of Miami Waterfront Advisory Board and brings a wealth of information to the Association on the important issues affecting our waterfront properties.
Recently, he was honored by the Navy UDT-SEAL Museum in Ft. Peirce, Florida for being a founding member of the museum that honors Navy SEALS and Navy Frogmen.
Hadley Williams,
Board Member
Hadley Williams has lived in the North Grove since 1992. He worked with Citibank/Citicorp for over 20 years in several countries and since the early 1990's has worked as a financial advisor and investment consultant based in the Grove. He is active in the Rotary Club of Coral Gables, working with several committees on local and international service projects. Hadley has served on the Board of CGPHA for several years and has been our representative with Miami Neighborhoods United (MNU), where he has held the post of President and as Team Head for both the Miami 21 Team and the Miami Neighborhoods Comprehensive Plan Amendment Team. MNU has been very active in representing the interests of its members before the City Commission and City Administration.
